Welcome to the fifth and final installment of our series on furniture design as it specifically relates to wine storage and display. To this point, we’ve spotlighted a variety of pieces ranging from practical, to inventive, elegant and even somewhat whimsical.

Now, we’d like to ‘go out with a bang’, so to speak. Today, we’re going to highlight a furniture creation that incorporates a number of the attributes mentioned above.

The Modulare Wine Unit by Padmas Plantation is a unit that takes its wine-storage role as serious as it does its responsibility of maintaining the standard of, if not adding to, the beauty of your home’s design.

While the unit can be considered large by comparison, renowned Chicago-based designer, Richard Higby (commissioned by Padmas Plantation) took care to ensure that you get the most out of every square inch. It is essentially a one-stop shop for not only your wine and spirits, but for virtually all of your china, flatware and other entertaining essentials.

Taking a practical top-down approach, items intended for more frequent use are stored right at hip level where they are easily accessible. Others intended for long-term storage or infrequent access, such as your wine and fine china, are meant to be stored above and below.

The Modulare Wine Unit can accommodate up to 54 of your best bottles in the lattice-style, diagonal storage area and even more in the lower cabinets if your need for wine storage outweighs your need to store plates. It also features 9 glass ‘sleeves’ which are perfect for keeping your stemware readily available.

The three pullout drawers come in handy for storing the all-important corkscrew, flatware, specialty items and more. Being constructed of mahogany wood and outfitted in mahogany veneers is merely a bonus.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this mini-series on wine-storage solutions and hopefully have been able to find  an option that is just right for you.
