Some say a messy desk is a sign of genius. I’m willing to bet it is also a sign of someone who’s unnecessarily stressed.
Working more efficiently to get more done is probably a new year’s resolution for most of us.
First things first, whittle down your home office furniture to the bare minimum: a writing desk, bookcase and file cabinet. (For more on the office desk, see post: Writing Desk)
To improve the efficient layout of your home office, you’re going to need a bookcase to store your go-to software, reference books, printers, etc.
The key in selecting a proper bookcase for the home office is to find one that has an open, minimal design. Avoid bookcases that have doors and covered shelves. This just creates more places to cram things and one more place to look for something you inherently misplaced.
Avoid it all together by forcing yourself to face the mess and keep your home office furniture open and free. The stress you’ll save yourself over time will justify almost any price up front.
