Decorating on a Budget

Chaise by Coaster

Looking to change the look and feel of your rooms without breaking the bank?

The good news is, it is more than possible to update your living space while maintaining a reasonable budget.

The key is to find relatively low-maintenance tasks that have a huge impact. Even more can be accomplished by those willing to roll up their sleeves.

Here are a few tips and ideas to help liven up your spacesĀ  without shelling out too much cash:

Coffee Table

Right there in the middle for all to see and interact with, the coffee table is often the elephant in the room. But unless the table’s potential is maximized, it’s just a dull, grey lifeless creature. Turn it into the purple elephant it should be by placing 3 to 4 coffee table books on it, a central decorative object like a large shell, a lacquer tray and a small arrangement of flowers in a bright vase.

Revamp Your Lamp

A quick way to add a bit of instant spark to a room is to adjust the look of the lamp. The base of the lamp and the lampshade aren’t paired for life. Look at them as separate pieces that were sold together. Find a lampshade with bright patterns and or colors that stand apart from, but compliments the base for a much-needed pop.

Accent Pillows

Throw pillows are another inexpensive way to immediately add a dose of personality into your home. Replacing the pillows that came with your sofa or simply infusing new ones couldn’t be simpler. Looking to do it yourself? See: Weekend Warrior: Throw Pillows.
