When hosting and entertaining, the living room is going to experience the most traffic and is more than likely where you and your guests are going to spend the most of the time.
But regardless of whether or not guests will be with you, the living room should be a place of high energy and striking design.
The term ‘striking’, however, doesn’t mean loud and obnoxious.
Here are some ways to infuse pops of color into your living room while still maintaining a balanced design scheme:
- If you’re looking for true bursts of color, consider using varying shades of the same color, set against a neutral backdrop. Brighter colors like oranges, yellows and greens are welcomed on muted palettes, as there is often less in the room to clash with.
- Painting a single wall in the room a bold color will compel the attention of all who enter the room. Everything on that wall should be as neutral as possible as to not conflict with the color of the wall itself. In order to maintain balance, the accent pieces in the room should be more muted shades of the wall color.
- It may seem strange, but white can actually be used as an accent color. In a room where darker colors prevail, the insertion of pure white accent chairs, wall mirrors, lamps, etc. can set a room apart.
