Here’s another edition of our series on ideas you can use to make a small bedroom appear larger.
The first ‘Design Ideas for Small Bedrooms‘ showed how using vertical stripes can make a room feel taller, how creating an accent wall can add visual depth and how windows make great anchor points.
Following are a few more ways to improve the design of small bedrooms:
Create a Canopy
A canopy bed utilizes the four tall posts (and the optional fabric) to add height to the room. The addition of height is often the best way to amplify a room’s feel when expanding outward isn’t an option.
One-Wall Storage
Unlike traditional bedrooms (or other rooms in the house) where there is plenty of space to store accumulated items, smaller bedrooms require a bit more efficiency.
Using one-wall for storage will free up the remainder of the room to help keep it uncluttered and feel open. Incorporating storage headboards or framing ceiling to floor storage units along the same wall as the headboard will create a point of visual interest as well.
Slim-Framed Furniture
Low-profile furniture is perhaps the simplest way to get a small bedroom to feel larger than it is. This is where contemporary furniture has the upper hand. The lightweight, non-bulky construction allows the eye to flow around the furniture, thus enlarging the space.
