Design Ideas for Small Bedrooms – Part 3

Step One Solid Black Platform Bed by South Shore

This is the third installment of our series on design tips for maximizing the space of small bedrooms.

The first ‘Design Ideas for Small Bedrooms‘ showed how using vertical stripes can make a room feel taller, how creating an accent wall can add visual depth and how windows make great anchor points.

Design Ideas for Small Bedrooms – Part 2 covered the benefits of canopy beds, low-profile furniture and storing items along one wall.

Here are a few more small bedroom design tips:

Create a Distraction

Find one element of the bedroom that will would be suitable for a bold design. A statement headboard, one wall with a standout pattern or wallpaper application. A large, striking element can serve as a distraction from the fact that the room is small.

Large Reflections

Not into the DIY or sweat equity? Who can blame you? Try placing an oversized floor mirror against a wall, as the reflection will help to add depth to the space.

Look Under the Bed

In scenarios when storage can be hard to come by, it’s sometimes best to revisit the storage solutions from our younger years. Toss as much as you possibly can underneath the bed.

Furniture like the platform bed pictured here increases your bedroom’s storage capacity while concealing the clutter.
