When thinking of modern day game rooms, images of lavish areas filled with top-of-the-line electronics, luxurious furnishings, vintage arcade games, collectible art and almost everything else you could hope for or imagine.
While it’s always cool to see there are game rooms featured on television programs , they aren’t exactly practical.
That’s where we come in. We’ll show you how to outfit a game room that’s not lacking and is budget-friendly.
Entertainment
Between the video game consoles and the need to be able to watch the big game when it comes on, what is a game room that doesn’t have quality entertainment options? Obviously enough, the entertainment options you choose to have in your game room ultimately comes down to what you find entertaining.
The basics, however, include a television, a DVD/Blu-Ray player, CD player/mp3 player dock, surround sound and the video game console(s) you prefer. Lasting adjustments that can actually add value to the home include wiring the home for sound as well as mounting brackets for projectors, speakers and other equipment.
Furniture
Furnishing your game room comes down to finding that balance between function and comfort. The comfort part of that equation is the easy part. What takes a little more thought, however, is arranging a layout and determining the pieces of furniture that will serve the way you use the space.
Games
When outfitting your game room, it’s important to consider interests other than your won. Unless you plan on being the only person to use the space, in which case it’s fine. Having a variety of games and activities available is great for entertaining family and friends when they pay you a visit.
If you’re on a tight budget and don’t want to spend on items you know you want to use, it’s best to start with what you love. However, it’s in your best interest to build up to the point where you’re incorporating these other games, as keeping your guests entertained will keep them out of your hair as well as freeing up your favorite source of entertainment because everyone’s waiting to use it.
Decor
A game room’s decor is what can truly take it to the next level. With the ability to design the room around practically any theme you choose, there is no limit to how far you can take the design. Unless you’re counting your better half, because then that limit is very real.
The most common themes found in game rooms include favorite sports teams, colleges and universities or other novelty themes like 80’s arcades, etc.

Don’t get discouraged. There are plenty of ways you can create your own entertainment den, or “man cave”, and not break the bank in the process. The key is to not rush into purchases and not to feel like you have to outfit it with all the latest gadgets that might not get used as often as originally planned.
