Is your kitchen feeling small and dark? Is it starting to become an area of stress that is dampening your mood?
Then maybe it’s time you learn to lighten up (your kitchen, that is).
For starters, let’s address the lighting:
Task Lighting
The two most common forms of task lighting in the kitchen are over-the-sink and underneath the cabinets.
As they are aptly named, these lighting installations make it easier to see what it is you’re working on (which can come in handy with working with sharp utensils).
General Lighting
Depending upon the size of the kitchen, one central lighting element usually isn’t enough to adequately light the entire space. What often results is a kitchen with areas that are more well-lit than others.
Consider installing recessed lighting in the form of various pot lights throughout the kitchen. This will evenly disperse the light throughout the entire kitchen, resulting in a balanced, evenly-lit space.
Light Fixtures
For smaller kitchens or open layouts where the kitchen and dining area are connected, consider updating the lighting fixtures for both spaces.
Many times, lighting fixtures restrict the open flow of light or points it in a general direction. Look for more modern light fixtures that incorporate an open design with contemporary elements that will update the space.
