Perhaps no other term is as used, or misused, when it comes to interior design than “feng shui” [fuhng shwey]. The reason for its rampant misuse could stem from the sheer mystery surrounding the topic.
In layman’s terms, feng shui is the Chinese practice of creating harmonious surroundings. Particularly for enhancing the balance between yin and yang.
Historically, feng shui was often used to orient spiritually significant buildings like tombs, but was used for other buildings as well.
Modern renditions of the practice occur in furniture layout and arrangement.
As with the underlying theme, a bedroom with good feng shui is one that has a certain allure. An attraction that draws one in. One that is simultaneously calming and exciting.
Here are a few feng shui tips you can incorporate into your bedroom to help facilitate the flow of positive energy:
- Keep the bedroom for quick naps, sleeping or enjoying your significant other. Rid the room of computers, televisions and exercise equipment.
- Have varying levels of lighting in the room. Lights with dimmer switches and using toxin-free candles are great ways to bring in these sources of energy.
- Frequently open windows or use an air purifier to keep the air fresh and flowing.
- Strategically place your bed so that it is not in the direct path of the door. Have two bedside tables, one on both sides and make sure the bed is easily approachable from both sides.
