The grills are being fired up. Family and friends are gathering to enjoy the day off. Memorial Day is a time-honored holiday that traditionally signals the start of summer.
What is often forgotten, however, is the reason for this holiday. Memorial Day is a day set aside to be mindful of soldiers who have given all they had to serve the country.
It’s not a time of all grief though. It’s also a time of celebration and thanksgiving. Celebrate the day by attending a parade or local festival, a little bit of shopping or spending the extra time with family.
Try and do something to honor their memory on this holiday. Whether it’s a small moment of silence before a meal, thanking someone you know who serves in the military or consoling a friend whose loved one died in service.
As we celebrate another Memorial Day today, let us keep in mind the reason for this holiday.
