Clutter is stress-free living’s Kryptonite. Simple as that. Maybe you’ve never thought of it that way. Maybe you’ve come to that realization years ago, but just can’t seem to get it in order.
Either way, we’re here to provide some simple, surefire tips to help un-clutter your home for once and (hopefully) for good.
Forewarning: if you know of someone’s home that looks as though it could be featured on A&E’s Hoarders, these tips will not be effective. Their needs are far beyond the reach of this article.
However, if things have just gotten a little worse with time, here’s some things you can do:
- Put half of your ornaments and accent pieces in storage. Not only will the home appear more open, but regular dusting and cleaning can be done in half the time.
- Go through the rooms in your home and sort out what you don’t need from what actually gets used. Be realistic. If it’s rarely been used within the last 2 years, toss it. Holding a yard sale can be a great incentive to clean house.
- Reconsider the additional pillows, throws and other items that looked amazing in the glossy magazine spreads, but are a pain to realistically deal with on a daily basis. Determine what you can handle and remove the rest.
Consider incorporating furniture that provides additional storage without taking up more space. Instead of a single-purpose headboard, look into a functional one like the Slant Back Headboards by Prepac. In the same amount of space, about 9 shelves have immensely increased the storage in a stylish way. Solutions like these are great ways to increase storage capacity in small spaces.
The main thing to keep in mind is that a home doesn’t become cluttered in one day. So it’s going to take more than one day to organize. Take your time. Have a plan and enjoy a cluttered free home.
