This series, ‘Make a Small Kitchen Look Bigger‘, is all about exploring ways to make the most of the square footage we have available in order to make our kitchens feel as large as possible.
The first ‘Make a Small Kitchen Look Bigger‘ centered around the effects of narrow furniture and painting the entire kitchen white. ‘Make a Small Kitchen Look Bigger – Part 2‘ showed a number of techniques to truly open up the space.
Here are a few more techniques you can employ to make your kitchen feel larger:
Horizontal Stripes
The style rule of horizontal stripes also applies to interior design. Horizontal stripes will make both a person and a room appear to be wider.
Good news for small kitchens. Bad news for waistlines. Use striped flooring that goes from side-to-side instead of flowing the length of the room.
A Height Advantage
Install cabinets that start at the ceiling and flow downward. If this isn’t an option, place molding above the panels. Decorative accent items like vases, frames, etc. can be placed above the cabinets for a similar effect.
The point is to force the eye to go up and down with taller items. The room will immediately feel taller as a result.
