The third post in our series, Small Space Solutions, will cover a couple of ways to make a room feel both taller and larger.
In the event you missed the previous posts, Small Space Solutions covered how to use scaled-back furnishings in order to make living rooms appear much more spacious. Small Space Solutions – Part 2 covered how to use natural light and lighter colors and materials in order to keep the room as open and airy as possible.
It can be astonishing how simple changes can have such a dramatic effect on a room, which directly impacts your quality of life.
In order to make a room feel taller, incorporate as many vertical sight lines as possible. These vertical lines immediately draw the eye from the floor to the ceiling, which makes the ceiling appear to be higher.
If the walls are also painted a soft color, the feeling of a higher ceiling will give you some breathing room.
These vertical lines can be incorporated through slim four-post beds, drapes hung as close to ceiling height as possible and mounting artwork slightly higher eye level.
Use a large floor mirror in order to make a room feel both larger and taller. The height of the mirror draws the eye upward while the reflection enhances the sense of space.
