Spring is just around the corner. With the warmer temperatures comes unpredictable, yet consistent rain. The best way to guard against damage is preventative measures.
With furniture that hasn’t been treated, excessive rainfall paired with inconsistent sunlight and warm temperatures to keep it dry can lead to fading, staining and discoloring, odor-causing mildew.
Waterproofing your furniture is a relatively quick and simple process that can be done in a day while still having plenty of the day left to enjoy your weekend.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
-Waterproofing Fabric Spray
-Hand-held Vacuum or Clean Brush
Step 1:
Using a brush and/or the hand-held vacuum, make sure the furniture is clean and free of any dirt, dust or particles. Not doing this can lead to a spotty finish when the waterproofing spray dries.
Step 2:
Making sure the furniture is completely dry, evenly apply the waterproofing spray (according to manufacturer’s instructions) to the furniture. It is important to apply the spray to the seams of the furniture, as this is a common area for water to collect allowing mildew to form.
Allow your outdoor furniture to dry completely before exposing it to rain.
Remember:
-Follow manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Some products are better used for certain materials and misuse could lead to permanent staining damage on your furniture.
-Safety goggles may be necessary if it’s windy and you don’t have a shed or other reserved workspace to work in.
