Summer is officially here. The school is out. The vacation time off has been submitted. You are ready to have fun in gorgeous summer weather. The last thing on your mind is to purchase a new dining set to replace your old one or to get a new bedroom set to replace the inflatable mattress in your guest room. Contrary to popular concept, summer time is actually the BEST time to shop for furniture. Here are some reasons why.
Price
Price increases are unavoidable when the cost of the products increases. In furniture industry, there are usually one or two price updates annually. The most common price updates are during beginning of Fall season since manufacturers introduce plenty of new selections and while doing so, also adjusting the price of the whole lineup.
If you are concerned about the summer budget (which has been stretched so much to enable one last family getaway before it ends), you can always inquire about payment plan. There are payment plan options that do not charge any interest as long as they are paid within a certain amount of time. For example: GE finance offers 6 month no interest with a small monthly payment.
Availability
Although it’s hard to believe, the piece of furniture that you want is not always in stock – Ok, it actually happens more often. If you can imagine, stocking bulky furniture is a lot harder than say stocking books or DVDs. The first problem is the production capacity of the factory. It is harder to manufacture furniture than books and regardless how automated they become, there are a lot more human interaction required (meaning: holiday, time off etc). Secondly, it requires a lot more space to stock them. If a certain brand offers thousands of items in the catalog, you can imagine how much space is needed to store all of them (if in fact they are in stock).
That being said, summer time is usually the time when manufacturer start updating their stock for the Fall season. By Fall season, everybody wants to get that perfect dining set that you’ve been eyeing for a while or the fabulous children bed that you’d like to get your hands on. Some styles can become a hit overnight (e.g: featured on a TV show) and you might need to wait for a long time to get it. Some stores do accept a back order to get you in queue for the next incoming shipment but if you plan ahead in summer time, you can avoid all the waiting game.
