While there may be many things from the 60’s and 70’s we would like to leave behind us, there were some good things to take from that era.
It was fun then. Things weren’t so stuffy. Everyone didn’t take themselves so seriously. This carefree feeling also applied to the decor.
Although our design standards and decorating tastes may have improved with age, we’re all still a bit young at heart.
If you’ve been itching to get that untroubled feeling back without actually reliving the glory days, here’s a few ways you can decorate a room in a retro style.
The simplest (and most cost-effective) way to infuse a room with a retro feel is through color. Select colors like mustard yellow, orange and avocado green. Incorporating tie-dye fabric throughout is a sure-fire way to pull it off.
Texture plays an important role in transforming a space and making it feel real. Without a doubt, smooth vinyls and shag carpeting will transport you back in time.
The accessories are what’s going to put the space over the top. Think door beads, scoop stools, abstract art and lava lamps. When it comes to decorating in a retro style, bolder is better.
We’re not suggesting you transform your entire house into a 70’s museum (although some people have and it turned out great), but converting one room in your home into a time machine can provide a little unbridled joy every day.
