Striped Wall Treatment

In conjunction with the latest Wall Treatments theme of going bold with color, this Weekend Warrior will show what is possible with masking tape, a paintbrush and a little bit of creativity.

Unlike our previous Weekend Warrior – Wall Treatments post discussing wall graphics, you can inject a ton of character into your rooms at no additional cost. All you need is the same materials you would need to paint the walls one solid color.

While wall graphics are not expensive, some people like to put their own personal touches on things. What more motivation is there to do your own thing that the fact that it won’t cost you an extra dime.

As pictured, a vertical-striped wall treatment can add a dramatic, yet subtle effect to a room.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
-Yardstick
-Masking Tape/Painter’s Tape
-Roller (or preferred paint brush type)
-Disposable Paint Tray(s)
-Paint*

*The amount (and number of colors) of paint necessary will depend upon the size of the room, the condition of the current wall paint, if the current wall color is what you want one of the stripes to be and how many colors of stripes you desire. Feel free to make it as subtle or carnival-esque as you please.

Steps
*If a base color other than the current one is desired, apply the lightest color of paint first, as it will be easier to cover it with darker colors.

  1. Using a yardstick, determine how thick you desire the stripes to be, making sure they’re spaced evenly apart. Mark the lines as such. Draw the line long enough to be used as a vertical guide in ensuring the lines are straight. If applying more than one color stripes, use a pencil to mark which
  2. Apply the painter’s tape along the edge of the lines. This will serve as your guide as you paint.
  3. Lay a drop cloth out to protect flooring.
  4. Pour the paint into the tray (one for each color stripe).
  5. Paint inside the guides. Allow to dry. Repeat.
  6. After allowing the second coat to dry thoroughly, carefully remove the painter’s tape from the walls.

What should result is a striking, uniform striped wall treatment that will add an element of excitement to your daily life.
